**VERONICA WINS THE SMITH CHALLENGE CUP FOR THE SECOND TIME**

Each member selected 3 shares which hopefully showed the most growth between 8th January and 1st July 2004. Each months members had the opportunity to sell any of their shares, for example, to take profits. The cash, however, could not be re-invested. The member with the highest total value was VERONICA with her brilliant selections of African Diamonds, Minmet and Petra Diamonds.

Jean Elsworth wins
Congratulations Jean - who is now the proud holder of the Smith Cup. A storming finish to a facinating competition with the selection of Hyder Consultancy placing Jean at the head of the field. Many thanks to Flick for organising the competition and computing the many statistics.
Briefly - each member chose a share from BBC1 ceefax July starting with letter "S". this is sold at tHe next meeting and proceeds banked. Then members choose for August share startinG with "M", then "A", then "S" and then "H" in following months (which spells, yes you have got it SMASH). those with the highest value portfolio at the end of the competition (November) win a very special prize.

Arnie Read wins
Arnie wins and takes over the safe keeping of the Competition Cup.
An inspired investment in Ulster TV did the trick, with Jean starting to close the gap between 1st and 2nd with her investment in Tomkins.
Of the 18 members taking part 9 made money over what was a very difficult time on the stockmarket. Arnie, the winner increased his investment by 42.7% and Jean by 41.2% - not bad eh?


Competition started 2 November 2000 - ended 3 May 2001 Janet Matthews-Lane wins Congratulations to Janet who won by a mile - increasing the value of her investment by 34.5%. Not bad when the market has been significantly marked down in recent months. Janet stayed with Marks & Spencer throughout, whilst the rest of us were struggling to maintain the £10,000 we all started with. The prize was the presentation of a cup generously supplied for the occasion by Heather Smith, thanks Heather. Proposals for the next competition will be discussed at the next meeting on 7 June 2001, which will also be our AGM


Competition started 2 December 1999 - ended 7 September 2000 CVL2 won by increasing their starting investment of £20,000 to a massive £28,484 Congratulations to Chris, Veronica, Linda and Srini. They now have the privilege of choosing the next real Smash Investment Club investment at the October 2000 meeting

In December 1998, we divided ourselves into 6 highly competitive groups with £20,000 each to invest over the next 12 months.The winners were Heather, Barry and Janet of The Smileas with a double your money performance, increasing their original investment from £20,000 to £40,302 - a gain of 101.51%.Congratulations to The Smileas and to all our other teams who, without exception, made money.The prizewinners earned the right to choose the next real investment to be made by the Club.
